How Mami Got Her Breakfast Groove Back

[alert type="info" close="false"]Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All thoughts, opinions and happy belly are purely my own.[/alert] I struggle with breakfast, y'all. It gets harder and harder because my brain is aware of how important it is for me to eat a good breakfast in the morning so that I have the wherewithal to get through my very full days. But If I don't plan my days, and put my foot down when it comes to ensuring that I take the time for it, then it's all downhill from there.

Eat Special, Feel Special!The Frog Princess, who a little too conscious about healthy and not healthy, asked me why I wasn't eating breakfast every morning right along with her. Madam! I don't need you to tell me that "breakfast is important for you" thankyouverymuch. But, I kinda did.

We are a household of Special K® lovers. At any given point in time, you'll find at least 2 different types of cereals in the pantry. We try to eat as healthy as possible so, it's no surprise that this cereal is a staple in the house.

Why, then, was I not engaging in breakfast more often? I don't think I'd found "the one". The one that got me back in my breakfast groove was Special K Red Berries. I love strawberries and this cereal has them. Real ones! It's also made with whole grains and gives me fiber (TMI: I need), folic acid and vitamin D. More importantly, I feel it gives me the nutrients I need to kick off my day right.

Eat Special, Feel Special!

I notice a BIG difference between the days I've skipped breakfast and the days I don't. I also find that when I start the day off with a healthy breakfast, I tend to make better choices for lunch. So, no pizza for me. I'm a lover of soups and salads and make good use of that love when I'm trying to do better.

Of course, planning is essential. These are the things I must do in order to ensure I eat healthy:

  1. Start my day off with a nutritious cereal like  Special K Red Berries.
  2. Plan my snacks ahead of time. This means I cut up my celery, prep any fruits and keep them easily accessible for when I get a craving. I am 100% more likely to grab nuts, fruit or veggie if I've prepped ahead of time.
  3. Make a weekly dinner menu. A lot of times I will deviate from one of the days but if I know ahead of time what I'm making, I find that I'm not as stressed out about dinner when 5:30 p.m. comes around.

Do you have a favorite cereal to kick off a great day of healthy eating? What special choices do you make to feel special?

Modeling a Breakfast Routine {#NewBreakfastRoutine}

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #NewBreakfastRoutine #CollectiveBias This year I'm all about taking better care of me. My word of the year is Epic and one of the things that I've been failing at in an epic way has been breakfast. I don't know what it is, y'all. I blame my parents (they're not reading the blog, so, might as well). The morning routine was simple: breakfast would magically appear in front of me. Now, I don't have that option since I'm the one that makes the magic happen.

It all came to a head recently when the Frog Princess pointed out that I needed to have breakfast when she had breakfast because I needed to be "healfy and strong". Folks, she's right. I need to be healfy. My running shoes are ready to roll but if I don't have sufficient morning energy, I can guarantee you that the run won't get done. Coffee can only take me so far.

Which is why I'm digging my one-two punch: BelVita Mini Breakfast Biscuits and V8 Veggie Blends. I pour myself a glass of Purple Power (my current favorite) after making my girl's breakfast and then while I'm packing her lunch, I nibble on the breakfast biscuits.

Then, while she's getting ready, I grab the digs that I picked up at Target while grabbing my groceries and voila! I'm ready to throw on the running shoes and when she gets picked up to head to school, I have already had my morning pick me up and I'm ready to hit the pavement. On Saturdays, I throw my veggie juice drink in a tumbler and eat my biscuits on the way to ballet class.  And of course, I share since we both take class at the same time.

 I love showing her that I'm committed to staying healthy. I'm also committed to saving money! Did you guys know about Cartwheel offers at Target? If you say yes, you must explain why you hadn't told me! I've been saving some dough lately. And when you pick up the items for your new morning routine, you can too! Save 10% on BelVita Breakfast Biscuits and probably on a lot of other things you need to grab. If you're shopping at the end of the month, this offer for V8 starts on 2/23.

So, am I the only one that's struggled to get with the breakfast program? Do you have a morning routine?
