Fun In The Sun!

We finally made it to the beach! I was happy to get out in the sun and look at some clear blue waters.

MelbourneBeachI love just sitting at the beach, don't you? Though my new favorite beaches are now on the west coast of Florida, I will say that Melbourne Beach is my new favorite East Coast beach. Partly because it's only a short drive away. And mostly because of the blue waters and the fact that the beach isn't packed with people. I suppose I shouldn't even tell you lest my peaceful beach get an influx of fans.

The original thought was that we'd stay overnight but, with everything I had on my plate, we did not. Some days, don't you just feel like being irresponsible and throwing caution to the wind? Since I birthed the frog princess, I don't think I've been able to do that and I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to again. Yes we have fun and we are silly and happy but I seem to lack the ability to throw caution to the wind these days. Perhaps when the business is running itself, I'll be able to (insert sarcastic laughter here).

Anywho, my plan is to not take another summer for granted and spend as much time out as we possibly can. This means that we have to protect ourselves. The frog princess has already lectured her dad about wearing "sunseen" so that he doesn't hurt his skin. I think it's pretty adorable.

Recently, Neutrogena sent over their summer suncare line for us to try. Needless to say, the products made their way into our bags and will remain there the entire summer.

2013-05-26 14.34.23I think that the kid has a favorite. I know it's one that I will be using a lot this summer on a daily basis as she has a lot of outside time and project at school (gardening, water days, etc). The Wet Skin spray is the bomb-diggity because it takes so little time to spray it on. And I love that even when she sweats, she's protected (FYI, I thought girls were supposed to perspire. This chick sweats!).

She likes it because it doesn't cut into her playtime. Is it just me or is the "moooom" whine passed down through the generations? Especially when it's a beautiful day and they just want to play while you attempt to lather on (or spray on) some protection. So she got the Wet Skin for her body and then I did lather some Beach Defense™ Broad Spectrum SPF 70 on her face.  Though I will say, she was pretty good when I reminded her that this was "sunseen" so that her skin wouldn't burn. I wonder where she learned that from? I have no recollection of saying that but, perhaps I did (pats self on back).

Here's a short video about protecting your skin. Guess the frog princess already knows all of this:

And yes, mami and daddy used sunscreen and sunblock too! You are never too old or too young to protect your skin!

The one thing I forgot on this beach trip? A book! I would've had time to read but alas, in all the packing frenzy I left my book on my nightstand.

6 Tips for Holiday Skin Swagger

With the frog princess recently sick, Thanksgiving a few days away, me behind on my schoolwork and the sleeping situation still in flux, I am here to tell you that I started looking a little like death warmed over.

My skin is looking less than fabulous and you know you’re in bad shape when your child holds up a green crayon to your eyes and points to the fact that the skin under them matches the crayon. Obviously, I haven’t taught her about tact.

Does this happen to you? Too busy running around to take care of yourself? Thanksgiving is just the beginning and I want to make sure you look hawt for those holiday parties. With that in mind, here are some cool tips on how to keep that radiant skin. Read on while I go put some of these into action.

  1. Holiday_SkinAfter a long day of work and before going to bed, make sure to always remove your make-up. This allows the skin to breathe and regenerate as you sleep. I’m horrible about this one. Especially when all I have is eye makeup on. But NEUTROGENA® Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes are perfect and quick.
  2. Hydration should always be part of your beauty regimen. I have oily skin but even then, I need to keep my skin hydrated (otherwise, I get greasy and flaky, yuck!). Try using NEUTROGENA® Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream, a soothing moisturizer formulated with multi-vitamins that replenish moisture and essential skin nutrients.
  3. In the morning, take an uplifting shower (ha!) with a refreshing product that will prepare your skin for the rest of the day. I pink puffy heart the NEUTROGENA® Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub. Why? Because it cleans my skin so well and makes me not feel grimmy. Really.
  4. I never remember to apply sunscreen BUT you totally should. Now I don’t really have to remember because I just throw on NEUTROGENA® Visibly Even™ Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 with Helioplex®. I get the best of both worlds in one sitting. What could be better?
  5. For a rested and natural look, send your kids to stay over at someone’s house. Ha, I don’t kid. If that’s not a possibility, try using NEUTROGENA® HEALTHY SKIN® Brightening Eye Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 25. It will diminish the appearance of puffiness and dark circles with an easy-to-use formula that quickly covers imperfections. It’s been clinically shown to de-puff and treat the appearance of dark under eye circles. Thank you Geezus!
  6. Don’t forget to take care of your lips! In my purse you will find NEUTROGENA® MoistureShine® Gloss. It gives me just a hint of color with a good amount of moisturizing. This way I don’t have to throw on a lipstick and lip moisture. Again, a good 2-for-1. This also softens and protects to improve the healthy look and smoothness of lips over time. You know, in case you get stuck under the mistletoe ;-).

I know so many of you are going through similar lack-o-sleep, “who has time to take care of themselves” thing. SO, how about you enter this giveaway for your very own holiday beauty pack? Come on, you know you wanna?

Mami Swagger: Saving Face

A few months ago I asked for opinions on a moisturizer.  Why? Because I am horrible and don't take care of my face.  Before you go all judgy on me, this is what you need to know: I suffered from really bad acne as teen. And I was bombarded with all sorts of products that I think made it worse.  Trying different things at different times wreaked havoc on my face and since then I've been on a more simplistic tip. Of course, I think I went all the way over to the other side and wasn't using anything.  I have an oily complexion but I'd noticed that right in the middle of my forehead, there were dry spots and I always looked like I was flaking.  Just because my skin was oily didn't mean it didn't need to be moisturized.  And I was having outbreaks here and there which, I wasn't happy about.

So, right before I headed to Blissdom, I stood in front of the cosmetics at Walmart and swayed back and forth.  I finally decided to go with the tried and true and what I consider the standard: Neutrogena.  I settled on the basic moisturizer and it's done a great job at making my skin feel like a normal human being's.

But I was still lollygagging on what to use for a wash.  Recently I had the pleasure of trying out this new line from Neutrogena and I am proud to say the lollygagging is over!  My face feels clean when I wash and it doesn't overly dry it.  One of the things that was happening before was that I was using harsh soaps that were irritating my skin.

I now use the oil-free acne wash line which comes in a new pink grapefruit which brings with it a soothing scent and feel to your skin. These are the products in the line: Neutrogena® Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser Neutrogena® Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub Neutrogena® Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser Neutrogena® Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes Pink Grapefruit for Acne-Prone Skin

I tried them all out and they have found a permanent place in my bathroom.  I keep the cleanser and the scrub in the shower and I use the creamy cleanser at my sink because I realized that I was being a lazy a$$ and sometimes just grabbing the soap at the sink since I didn't have an additional cleanser.  It was a big DUH moment for me when I realized I just needed 2 cleanser bottles.

The cleanser is really gentle on my skin. On top of having had acne and having an oily complexion, my skin is also sensitive and on more than one occasion I've been known to have an allergic reaction of sorts to products. I can say this has been smooth sailing.

I think my favorite of the group though are the cleansing wipes.  I don't know about you but, I can look at my skin sometime in the afternoon and instantly wish I was in my bathroom so that I could clean up. My face looks greasy and that makes me feel like I haven't cleansed properly.  With the wipes, though, I can clean my face and it's like I'd washed up.  The good thing about these wipes (as opposed to just using some of the frog princess's) is that it cleans my face but doesn't leave it overly dry.

And I have a confession to make.  I haven't had a ton of breakouts lately but I really wanted to make sure that these products worked on skin that was breaking out so that I could give you an honest review.  So, I've been using the cleanser on my shoulders since I seem to be breaking out there due to the length of my hair and the oils in it. I have noticed a difference and my acne seems to be clearing up.  My shoulders also feel nice and smooth.

Whenever I find something I love, I like to share it with you and sure enough I'm giving away one NEUTROGENA® Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit line gift set valued in $30! Be sure to sign up in the Rafflecopter below.

So, this is how I'm saving this face and bringing back clear, healthy skin to complete the mami swagger.  What are you doing to save face?
