Mami Swagger: Derby Style

[box type="shadow" ]Disclosure: I was provided with some of these products in order to review. Please see below for details.[/box] I was off to Seattle for a few days this past week (I'll tell you about that later). When I got back I really looked forward to the Kentucky Derby Soiree. Why, you ask? I was going to get to dress up!

And dress up I did! I have not felt that good about how I looked in a while. Having the issues I've had in the past few months has meant that frumpy and blah were the norm around here.

The Ensemble

I created a collection on eBay for all the hat options. Truth be told, I got two of them.

While shopping for an Easter dress for the Frog Princess, I came across a black and white dress. I took it as a sign. At a whopping $16.99 (Burlington Coat Factory), I could not in good conscience leave it at the store. Especially since it was a perfect match for the hat!

The shoes had to pop and so, I took to social media to get some votes on which pair I should buy.

The Michael Antonio Love Me Bright Patent Platform Pump won (#2).

The Makeup

I use the Neutrogena SkinClearing Liquid Makeup. But before the makeup, I've been trying out the shine control primer that seems to work for me.

Yanira (like every other beauty blogger I come across) has been horrified at my tales of what exactly lurks in my "makeup bag". She took pity on me and sent me these great Mary Kay brushes and cool eye shadow that I thought would be fantastic: springy duo.

I took close up pictures of my makeup and decided to burn them (beauty bloggers, please feel free to leave me directions/instructions that lead me to take pics that don't make me look like you can land a plane on my forehead, thanks).

Let's just say it looked good. I paired the eye shadow with:

Nails had to be done to the nines as well. Pop of color was the name of the game. And so, Pure Ice's After Hours with the awesometastic It's Complicated (sparkles) completed the look.

Derby Day

These are pics from Derby Day. I felt like I was in a photo shoot. I also didn't want to show too many pics of other folks since I didn't ask them (do I need a release for this stuff? People should know if I take a pic, it's probably going up somewhere).

To say I felt fantastic is an understatement. I was reminded of the Mom Sexy post I did a few years back about taking time for you. If you're a Mami you know that's not something that you do often. Leading up to Mother's Day, I felt this was a great reminder to not abandon myself, as Mami used to say.

The one thing you don't see here is the perfume I wore. I got giddy when I heard that Sofia Vergara had a fragrance out. When it finally got to my greedy little hands, I fell instantly in love.

Unfortunately, we don't have smell-o-vision yet. And so, you will have to make due with winning your very own bottle of Sofia. You're welcome. Smooches!

[box type="shadow" ]Disclosure: I was provided samples of the following to review:

  • L'Oreal products
  • Sofia Vergara fragrance
  • Pure Ice nail polish from Influenster

No additional compensation was received other than the pleasure of playing with dress up.[/box]

Beauty Break: Predictions for the Premios

I've been meaning to write about my beauty routine these last couple of weeks. But then I realized that my routine consisted of making sure I didn't have bags under my hair didn't become a refuge for birds flying by. So,  that post will have to wait. I recently had a beauty box delivered and though I hardly ever get a chance to play with makeup, I'm loving the goods.

As we gear up for Premios Juventud tonight, everyone is making as to "the look" of a couple of beautiful Latinas we know and love. L’Oréal Paris brand ambassadors and celebrity experts Marcos Carrasquillo and Claudia Betancur share their red carpet predictions here:

Hair

L’Oréal Paris: What hair trends do you see walking the red carpet?

Marcos Carrasquillo:  “This red carpet is going to be focused on beachy hair.  Not your typical award show hair-dos as this is a young award show and the celebrities walking the red carpet to keep it young-looking ad fresh.”

L’Oréal Paris: What hair styles will dominate the red carpet?

Marcos Carrasquillo: “The top hairdos that will dominate Thursday’s red carpet are messy updos, high ponytails, fish braids and of course the popular beachy waves.”

L’Oréal Paris: We were so excited to hear that Jennifer Lopez will be attending the award show on Thursday. What hairdo do we expect to see from her?

Marcos Carrasquillo: “Jennifer Lopez is always sporting her big hair. We will definitely see her on Thursday with her sexy, voluminous “beachy waves” hairdo.”

I've been wearing my curls a little more tame lately and think I'll give my EverCurl products a rest and try this out:

Begin by washing your hair with L’Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Shampoo and Conditioner. This magic duo helps with taming frizz and fights back the humidity in powerful summer climates, such as Miami.

Apply a quarter-sized amount of L’Oreal Paris EverCurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner throughout your damp hair evenly. Work through with your fingers by twisting and scrunching individual pieces. I use this hair crème a lot with my clients as it helps the look last all day.

Next, spritz a little bit of the L’Oréal Paris EverCurl Silk & Gloss Dual Oil Care and blow-dry with a hair diffuser to help with volume.

Finish off with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray to add shine and long-lasting results.

Products Used:

  • L’Oréal Paris Advanced Smooth Intense Shampoo
  • L’Oréal Paris Advanced Smooth Intense Conditioner
  • L’Oréal Paris EverCurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner
  • L’Oréal Paris EverCurl Silk & Gloss Dual Oil Care
  • L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold Unscented

Makeup

L’Oréal Paris: Claudia, what makeup look do we expect to see on Thursday?

Claudia Betancur: “I expect to see many modern, young looks on the red carpet this Thursday. Fresh-looking faces with many fun, vibrant colors.”

L’Oréal Paris: Can you mention some vibrant colors that are on trend this season?

Claudia Betancur: “Of course! Fun colors that are on trend and that I will DEFINITELY see on the red carpet are blues and/or greens for eye shadows on tanned skin.”

L’Oréal Paris: Rumor has it you’re working on Thalia’s makeup-can you share the inside scoop?

Claudia Betancur: “Thalia is always so fun to work with, she’s fun and playful and is always willing to try new products and is a big fan of L’Oréal Paris. With Thalia, her green eyes are always a focal point and I’ll  be using some rosy tones to have them stand out. Her lips will have a ton of shine while her complexion will stay fair.”

I will say that I am already in love with the Miracle Blur and recently, I had a chance to try out the Colour Riche eyeliner and I really dug it.

To achieve Thalia’s flawless skin and glow, use L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Miracle Blur Oil-Free . This finishing cream helps to instantly blur lines wrinkles, pores and uneven texture.

Next, apply L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer to hide any unwanted blemishes. The applicator is so thin, allowing precise coverage of any imperfection and providing a natural-looking appearance.

Use L’Oreal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Rose Gold Lift to brighten your face and illuminate your cheekbones. I like using this shade on Thalia because it gives a natural flushed color.

After, I’m loving the new L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Eye Liners and will definitely try the new Sea Green shade that way Thalia’s green eyes will pop with more color.

Finish off your eyes at the top lid for the extra wow factor and then top off both the top and bottom lashes with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Excess Mascara giving you long and full lashes as if you had false ones on.

Use L’Oreal Paris Colour Caresse Shine Stain by Colour Riche to give your lips a glossy finish. For this look, the perfect shade would be Pink Resistance because of its subtle, pale pink color.

Products Used:

  • L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Miracle Blur Oil-Free
  • L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer
  • L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush

PS: What are you predicting the stars will wear? More importantly, can you predict what I will be wearing tonight?

Disclosure: I was given some of these products in order to review them. Most of the products are in a box in my closet for fear that the frog princess will get in my stash and "color her babies".
