September Means Magical Dining

Disclosure: I was part of a blogger preview dinner at Siro's via Visit Orlando. All thoughts, opinions and salivation are purely my own. One of my favorite things as a blogger has to be previews at restaurants. I'm a closet foodie and write vast amounts of beautifully written and appropriately photographed foods. Unfortunately, they are all written in my head so you will just have to make do with my Instagram, Pinterest and posts like this.

But, I digress. It. Is. Magical. Dining. Month! I am particularly excited because I just moved and the thought of not cooking a few meals this month and instead being treated to the surprised that I could find in over 75 restaurants around town sounds...dreamy.

I went to Siro Urban Italian Kitchen and dug the treats, the ambiance and the fact that I could totally book a magical night, have a couple of flights of wine and and then glide right on over to my hotel room. What did we do before Magical Nights, folks? This way you don't have to invite that one girlfriend that doesn't drink and gives you the side eye when you do. See, I'm looking out for you.

Here’s your Siro menu for Magical Dining month:

Choice of Appetizers MARINATED TOMATO SALAD Burrata, sea salt FRITTO MISTO Lemon-caper aioli GRILLED QUAIL Fennel sausage, pepperonata, Vidalia onion puree

Choice of Entrèes CHICKEN MILANESE Summer salad BUCATINI AI FRUTTI DI MARE Mussels, clams, shrimp, fennel sausage, tomato-saffron brodo GRILLED STRIP STEAK Ragout of summer squashes topped with crispy crumbs

Choice of Desserts ZEPPOLES CANNOLI TIRAMISU

In the mood for something else? Check out the list of restaurants and pick a favorite. But, I really recommend you pick something new. This gives you a way to try foods you might not try otherwise, at a great price!

It is Friday and there will be loads of date nights so, what are your tried and true restaurants on this list and what new foods are you going to be tasting soon?

Magical Dining: A Culinary Celebration

Today on the blog I have one of my favorite people talking about one of my favorite things to do in Orlando!

peaceAbout Karen: A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is the CEO/Principal Planner of Matchless Weddings & Events, an Orlando, Florida based company, where she specializes in the production & planning of private & corporate events, as well as wedding coordination. With a 10 year background in the special events industry, Karen is known for thinking outside of the box, being resourceful and working in high-pressure environments.

Starting September 1 though September 30, Visit Orlando brings to you Magical Dining Month, an 8th year culinary celebration sure to please your palate and wallet! I had the opportunity to preview one of the newest restaurants added this years participating locations, Ruth's Chris Stake House on Restaurant Row (Sand Lake Road) with a few local bloggers and foodies.  Now most folks know that a premium restaurant like Ruth's is in the $$$ range but for this month, you can get a 3 course, prix fixe meal for only $33....DID SHE SAY $33?!?

Sure did! I had the chicken & andouille sausage gumbo, 4oz filet with shrimp AND a cheesecake creme brulee with a rhubarb puree and chocolate macadamia nut cookie....I swear one of the BEST meals I have ever had! The food was flavorful, hot, hearty and I still can't believe you can get all of that for $33/person! I could just imagine what the other restaurants have in store.

So here are the deets on this month long food fest:

*The month-long event will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida, with $1 from every meal donated to the organization.

*Visit www.orlandomagicaldining.com to check out the 60+ restaurants participating in the convention area, Disney/Lake Buena Vista, Downtown Orlando, Restaurant Row, Universal/Citywalk, Winter Park & North, and surrounding areas.

*ADDED BONUS: This year to enhance the Magical Dining experience, Visit Orlando is giving visitors and locals a way to extend savings & enjoy their dining experience for two as well as enjoy hotel accommodations-  all for one great price!

I HIGHLY recommend checking out these great restaurants in Central Florida.  I know I am going to try quite a few restaurants during the month of September...and at the same time donate to a great cause!

If you follow me on the Twitter you know how much I love food. Recently, I’ve realized something about myself (yes, I’m still in self-discovery mode, don’t judge me!). I enjoy cooking, it brings a certain peace into my life possibly because of all of the history of cooking in my family. But the thing is, I love food a lot more when someone else cooks it. When I heard about Orlando’s Magical Dining Month I couldn’t get to the preview fast enough.

The good people at Visit Orlando shepherded us over to Fogo de Chão, an authentic Brazilian steakhouse in Orlando last week to give us a taste of what to expect during the month of September.  The name is a mouthful (correctly pronounced fo-go dèe shoun). Thankfully so is the food. Here’s the problem, everything is good. And this is bad because it’s pretty much all you can eat. They have a beautiful salad bar and authentic Brazilian sides. Their coup de gras, however, is their meats. Roasted in an open charcoal fire, these meats are seasoned with nothing but coarse salt and pepper. But the effects are mouth watering to say the least. With 16 different cuts of beef, lamb, chicken and pork you understand why everything being delicious is a bad thing, right?  And don’t get me started on their desserts. The one recommendation I have for you: wear lose clothing!

Oh also, be sure that you keep an eye on your double-sided disc. See, the gauchos will keep bringing you meats as long as they see that disc turned up to green. Though I will say, I’m glad they asked me if I wanted to try some meats when my companions were getting some and my disc was red. I got to experience some new explosions of deliciousness because of that.

September is going to be a beautiful month. Now that I’ve gotten Fogo off of my list, I plan on making my way to one of the SEVENTY restaurants on the list every weekend. Yes, I’ve already started a Pinterest board in anticipation of which restaurants I think I am going to hit (currently on the list: Luma, MoonFish, The Boheme).

I’ve just realized I’m going on and on and on here and not told you what’s so magical about Magical Dining Month in Orlando. Let me answer your questions:

Are top restaurants participating? YES! Check out Orlando Magical Dining for a complete list of menus and to make reservations.

Are they giving back to the community? YES! The 2012 charitable beneficiary for Magical Dining Month is Edgewood Children’s Ranch. They will receive $1 for every meal served.

What’s so magical about this? With 70 restaurants participating all over the city, you can taste the magic of the city for the low, low price of $30!!!!!! That’s a 3-course meal that will make you jump for joy. For $30. Now do you get the magic?

Now I have 2 questions for you:

1. Which restaurant are you going to first and

2. What time should I be ready to go?

Disclosure: Visit Orlando treated me to dinner at Fogo de Chão. All drooling on my keyboard and stuck zippers due to my total lack of control are purely of my own doing.
