  • Drop the kid off at school
  • Drive home
  • Make coffee
  • check FB Twitter email for any fires
  • Jump in the shower
  • Stare into my closet while promising to purge what's in it
  • Make myself presentable (get rid of rat's nest on top of head, cover up bags under eyes, spray it up, etc.)
  • Pack my work bag and try not to forget laptop charger (AGAIN)
  • Drive to the office

This is my morning. As opposed to the kid's morning which is totally different and lots more organized. That starts before the first item on the list above.

How long do you think it takes me to be out of the door in the mornings?  Well, that depends.  Planning ahead is one of the best time savers in the world. I am convinced of it. I can tell you how to do it, how it works and put a spreadsheet together for you. But, I don't always do it for myself. What can I say?

These past few weeks, I've had to readjust my schedule for the frog princess so I've been schlepping it at the house but this week, it's back on task. I have to get my behind-the-scenes plan together. Otherwise, my entire day is off.

I told you before about my time deficiency ashi-itis. Being short on time was definitely one of the reasons I wouldn't lotion my body before running out of the house.  Now it's like a challenge for me to see how fast I can spray & go! My sister was in town this week and I mentioned the Vaseline challenge and the cool commercial for it and urged her to try it. "Oh, I've been stealing some of your spray since I got here." Mental note: hide my stuff! No wonder she wasn't taking forever in the bathroom. My sister is serious about taking care of that pretty skin of hers. Having her using the Spray & Go moisturizer meant that others could use the bathroom sooner (like the frog princess and her peepee dance).

My new goal for the week to help me manage my time in the mornings?

  • Pick my clothes out the night before and set them out (like in the commercial, though I won't be jumping into them. Well, at least not that gracefully)
  • Make coffee while I get the frog princess ready for school
  • DO NOT peruse my email before leaving the house
  • Continue to use Vaseline Spray & Go

It's all about planning behind the scenes, right? Remember that cool commercial where the girl got her clothes on quicker than I could type this sentence? Here's how the did it:

Battling Time Deficiency Ashi-itis with Spray & Go

I have a confession: I'm ashy. I know! I know! I'm so embarrassed about this!

But it's true. I take the time to make sure my girl's needs are taken care of and that she has everything she needs. But inevitably, I'm out of time and end up running out of the door only to later discover (usually while I'm in front of someone) that I am, in fact, ashy. It's usually my legs and let me tell you, it ain't pretty. You might think that because I'm light skinned it wouldn't be seen as much. Oh contraire mon frère. I end up looking like I have some sort of shedding disease. I mean really, the only thing that comes to mind is a snake! I'm slightly mortified but it has happened more often than I care to recount.

When I saw this Vaseline commercial, I thought it might help me with my time deficiency ashi-itis:

?(time deficiency ashi-itis is common in mamis. It is the walking around with very dry skin because of lack of time to take care of such things)

I was still skeptical, though. So I took the Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer Challenge. First of all, can I just tell you Vaseline is not what I remembered? That's the first thing. Second thing: I realized that apparently, I'd lost my ability to know how to work a stopwatch. And not the stopwatch on your smartphones, people. An honest to goodness stopwatch. It took me like 12 minutes just to figure out how to work the buttons. But, I digress.

I timed myself using the Spray & Go and then I timed myself using lotion. There was a slight...um...situation when I did the lotion because I was about a minute and 30 seconds into it when I grabbed the stopwatch and it slipped out of my hands because they were slippery with lotion. The stopwatch may or may not have landed in the toilet. So, let's just leave it at that. I'm grateful I did the Spray & Go experiment first. I clocked in at an astounding 23:40!

Which means I get to not be ashy from now on. I liked that it's a continuous spray that not only moisturizes but absorbs in seconds. It felt like magic. You ever lotion yourself up and then go to put on your jeans only to realize your jeans are sticking to you? I didn't have that problem with this moisturizer. Which meant that if I left my clothes ready in the morning (this is BIG for me in saving time), I could be moisturized and dressed in about the same time it used to take me to put on lotion.

Preparing the night before is definitely a big one for making sure I'm saving time and getting out of the door on time most mornings. And making sure my skin is soft and well-cared for is one thing on my list of "things to do to take care of me".
