Visiting the Walgreens Wellness Bus

Disclosure: this is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I had the pleasure of hanging out with the crew of the Wellness Tour Bus at a local Walgreens on Wednesday.

This crew has traveled over 15 states since March as they bring a little wellness to those that need it. I was impressed at the thought of thousands of people that have benefited from this service.

For the ninth year, Walgreens and the National Urban League have joined together for this much-needed community outreach program dedicated to providing free preventative and early detection health services to urban and at-risk communities across the country.

With a simple prick of my finger, the following tests were done:

  • Total Cholesterol Levels
  • Glucose Levels
  • Blood Pressure
  • Comprehensive Weight Assessment Test: - Body Weight - Body Mass Index - Body Fat Percentage - Skeletal Muscle Percentage - Body Age - Resting Metabolism - Visceral Fat
Y'all, according to these tests my body is actually 26. Sooo...I'll be heading to the DMV with my results and asking for an official change of age!

But seriously, collectively, the health tests are valued at more than $100. The health tests are administered by certified wellness staff and are available to adults who are ages 18 and older. I love that this program brings these tests to people that might fall in the coverage gap within the states (as in Florida where Medicaid has not yet been expanded).

Once they took my blood, I think I had my results in 8 minutes. Total time there was probably 20-30 minutes which isn't bad. No appointment was necessary. I received an overview of my results and some literature to read up on a variety of health related points that we all need to be aware of.

Now through November, Walgreens will use the tour to help provide free health tests, assessments, education and consulting services to Americans in select markets nationwide.

There's still time to hit them up here in Orlando:

Thursday, September 3 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Walgreens 13720 W. Colonial Dr. Winter Garden, FL 34787

Friday & Saturday, September 4 & 5 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tom Joyner Family Reunion Expo Gaylord Palms Convention Ctr 6000 W. Osceola Pkwy Kissimmee, FL 34746

Check out their site to see if they're coming to a Walgreens near you!
