A Mother's Day Message to Heaven
Mother's day is rounding the corner. The Relay for Life is tomorrow (if it's in your heart to donate, please do so here). I have no concrete plans for the weekend. In speaking with my grief counselor, I got a little package basically outlining surviving the holidays. I am supposed to do something for myself though I am not sure what that will be.
For mami, this is her first mother's day in heaven. I wanted to celebrate that. I got a great idea during my session and I want to share it with everyone. I know I'll be going to church. I'm thinking afterwards, we can drive to the cemetery with balloons in the car. At the end of the ribbons, we will each write a note for mami. I'll also have the frog princess "write" a note of her own. I plan on doing this for years to come because the beauty and simplicity is not lost on me. For family members that aren't here to celebrate, I thought that it would be special if they wanted to do this as well wherever they may be. The plan is to release those balloons right up to heaven with all of the sweet messages of love that they can hold. I imagine it will make her smile her big smile. In doing so, I hope to find my own smile that day. My own sense of happiness at this holiday that should not be filled with sorrow but somehow still is. I'll be sending up balloons for grandma as well.
I know some of you have lost your moms as well and I thought that this would be a good tradition to share should you be looking for something to do to honor your loved one that day. If you get a chance to do this, I'd love to hear from you. I will be following up with pictures and hope that you do too.
Happy Mother's Day!
Update: here's the post where I release the balloons...
