5 Gifts Ideas For Yourself After Mother's Day

Gift-Ideas-for-yourself.jpg

So here we are, the day after Mother's Day and some of you are wondering if you live in an alternate reality where your family has met a bizzaro version of you because the gifts they got speak to nothing of what you like. Yes, you are grateful, yes you love your family. No, you don't exactly love the gifts. The good thing is that there's nothing stopping you from getting a few things that will make your heart soar!

And so, here's my list of must-have gifts that Mamis should get themselves if these did not appear in your home on Sunday.

Gift Ideas for yourself

Say yes to the wall art!

I found WeMontage a bit ago and I am completely in love with this product! It is the easiest way to showcase beautiful pictures in your home. The hardest part will be selecting (or in my case finding) the images to use. I love this product because you can remove it and reuse it. As a renter, these collages make the most sense to me. Go check them out and let James know I sent you! Collages start at $59.99 and are worth every penny!

Ralph Lauren Romance AtomizerSmell the Roses Romance

I've always been a fan of Romance. And when I heard there was a new fragrance in the line, I had to have it. It's what I wore on Mother's Day. Midnight Romance is a slight departure from the original but one which I guarantee you will love just as much! Of note, the limited edition atomizer. It is everything! Starting at $23 at RalphLauren.com.

Getchu some kissable lips!

What can I say? I've become slightly obsessed with lipstick lately and Urban Decay's Sheer Revolution line is on the top of my list. I am starting to understand Jai a little better as to why she has so many lipsticks and lip gloss in her arsenal. They are fun! Nothing like a little rouge to get your spirits up, I say! $22, Available at Sephora, Ulta, and UrbanDecay.com

Band it!

When I first heard of the Microsoft band the thing that went through my head was: why don't I have one? It's why it made the list. To monitor your health, to be productive, to make sure you're getting enough sleep. It's like a Mami on your wrist, yo! How many will you get? $199

Reading is Fun!

Grab a book or two! You know you want to. Check out some of my suggested reading and tell me what you get. If you get the first book on the list, you'll notice that I'm on the cover. Because...poetry y'all. #iwriteit

Did you love what you got for Mother's Day? What are you planning on getting yourself?

Father's Day Gift Guide

eBayDad-e1401935810418.jpg

This post was written as part of my collaboration with eBay. The week before Mother's Day, I had a conversation with a guy friend who literally called me and said the following words "what do I get for my wife? And go!"

Upon lots of questions (and his refusal to buy the high tech gadgets y'all know I recommend), I tried to get to the bottom of things "do you think she'd like this? What about that?". Ten minutes into it and we start to argue. He had in fact already gotten her something but wanted add on gifts (which isn't bad). Then he says "I only get socks and underwear for Father's Day".

And that stopped me in my tracks. Let me just say I'm pretty sure he's having selective memory on this as I know his wife. But I was sad to hear that he hasn't been wowed by any Father's Day gifts.

I love gadgets. Love giving them and love receiving them. Here are some gadgets the man in your life will appreciate.

Nokia Lumia 1020

If this phone was a bike, it would be a Ducati. Not that I want you to ever get a bike for your man but, you get the drift. You will also get awesome images with this little bad boy.

Dad will appreciate being connected and having his documents always in hand (like the grocery list you can share with him in OneNote).

Xbox One

Okay, I think that this would be a great gift for me but, if you must get dad a gaming system then this is the thing for you. Again, I'm thinking this will give you multi-use at home (you can do your Jillian Michaels work out on this thing!). Not that dad has to share his gifts but I think it's a good compromise for him to get this in your living room.

Beats Studio Headphones

These are great for home or work. He can chillax in front of the computer or the flat screen and take in a movie while you yell and scream at the kids. Or vice versa. Again, versatile!

I have more gadgets over in my I Love It When You Call Me Tech Papa collection. Feel free to check it out for more memorable gifts for dad.

And also, because I shop for my own dad on Father's Day, you can check out my Para Papi collection. It mostly consists of clothing. My mom always shopped for his clothes. And at the risk of hearing my dad sound like my friend, he really does need clothes. His new wife doesn't know how to dress herself let alone dress him. So, it's up to me to keep him in the comfy and age appropriate clothes Mami got him accustomed to.

eBay is all about equal opportunity so now you can create your own #eBayDad collection and enter for a chance to win $500 to shop on eBay. That means you can shop for more dad gifts! And a little something for yourself.

Okay so tell me, what are you getting the dad in your life for Father's Day?

3 Techy Must Haves for Mami

3_Techy_Gifts_Microsoft-e1399600452655.jpg

[box type="shadow" ]Disclosure: I am a Microsoft Office Champ.[/box] Let's dive right in. These three things make me more productive and are sure-fire ways to make me happy as well. I bet your Mami would appreciate them. And if you're a Mami: getchu some!

A Phone

Windows_925Thing is, you've been sitting back and sleeping on this Windows Phone. I'm here to tell you it's time to wake up and smell the tiles!

I had the great pleasure of playing with one this past week and was even allowed to bring it home with me (as opposed to the last time when a certain someone had to tackle nudge me into giving them the one I'd been playing with for 2 days). This is the Nokia Lumia 925 and it's about to be my permanent phone in about 24 hours (I need to give it a name).

Now, Windows 8.1  is going to bring you the fire so I suggest you get in now and get acclimated to all this hotness for when Cortana  hits the streets. Don't know who that is? Your very own personal life manager/best friend/lifesaver/digital assistant, that's who! Cortana (or C-Boogey, as I like to call her) is bringing you some goodness. Here are a few of the things you will thank me for later:

  • CortanaQuiet hours. So, after reading that you're all ¿Que? No hablo ingles. Here's what that means: your phone will be quiet from the hours of whateveryoudecide to youvehadenoughsilence. No rings, buzzes or beeps. The best part is that you can set your inner circle and still get text messages from your man/woman/child (I won't tell if they're not really in your inner circle). You get the drift though, right?
  • Reminders that won't slip your mind after your alarm goes off (don't act like it's just me). Cortana can remind you to do something at a specific time, a particular place, or when you talk to a certain person.
  • Of course, you will STILL have access to all of your OneDrive documents which means I can totally send my clients the files they need at 6 a.m. without actually leaving my bed

In short: amazeballs. I could go on and on but, I need to tell you about 2 more things.

Microsoft Office 365

Office_365A few of you folks had been asking me some questions privately. Here are a few:

  • Can I use Office 365 on the iPad?
  • Can I find Word, Excel and PowerPoint in the app store?
  • How do you do it all?

Allow me to respond in public. Yes {insert name here}, you CAN. How do I know this? Microsoft announced it on my birthday. Because, well, I'm awesome, this is awesome. It's a no brainer, people!

The apps have the robust capabilities and the look and feel you recognize as Office, and now you get a fantastic touch experience built from the ground up for iPad. With the free versions of the apps, you can read your Word documents, view your Excel data and present with PowerPoint. Which is mighty nifty if you ask me!

With an Office 365 subscription, you can edit and create new documents with the iPad. When you edit a document, you can be sure that content and formatting will be maintained across Office on PC, Mac, tablet and phone.

And that last question? Folks, I just Get It Done.

Surface Pro 2

SurfacePro2In December I told you about the Surface Pro. Now I'm here to tell you about the Surface Pro 2. I'm not going to bore you with technical specs.

I am, however, going to tell you that I have been running MY LIFE on one. I was just upgraded from the first and the second is certainly not letting up on the fantastic. I think the word I'm looking for is seamless. I can move from device to device and still access all of my files. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. As the frog princess says can you imathine (I love the lisp!).

So one question: which one of these are you going to get/give?

I can help you out one at least one. Enter the giveaway to own your very own copy of Office 365 Home edition. You're welcome!

Disclosure: I am a Microsoft Office Champion. All opinions, thoughts, references to being awesome and thangs are purely my own (including the bright idea to tell you what to buy for Mami's Day).

Mother's Day Gift Giving

[box type="shadow" ]This post was written as part of my collaboration with eBay.[/box] Mother's Day is always hard for me. I want it to be different this year. When I heard about #eBayMom collections and sweeps, I thought this might be a good beginning. A way back to bring back some happy memories.

I started looking through the Moms on eBay gift guide and it brought back a flood of memories of Mami. Shopping with her, shopping for her, the look on her face when she got a gift. And the fact that my grown ass Mami could NOT stand the sight of a wrapped gift for longer than a few minutes at a time. She was an expert at peeking because she couldn't stand waiting.

One year after Mami had renovations finished up at the house, she was looking for a chandelier. We would talk about them, she would drag me to stores to stare at them and she would go on and on and on about what she was looking for.  I went ahead and bought not one but two chandeliers (one for the dining room and one for the living room). I had to hide them in my house in a place where she wouldn't see them when she came over. It was great fun.

This was for Christmas and I knew I couldn't put them under the tree because )I'm not making it up) this woman would peek and then would put the wrapping back perfectly. Looking back I realize that she probably knew what was in every box way before Christmas. Anywho, the look on her face when she saw that I got her not just one chandelier but TWO and that they were both exactly what she wanted?! A kid at Christmas. Literally. It's one of the most priceless memories I have.

We all want to give that to our Mamis, right? I created two collections in honor of Mamis Day. One as a tribute and a reminder of all things that Mami liked and the other as my own personal wishlist. This was a great happy memory inducing activity.

Mamis_Collection

You have 17 more days til Mother's Day. So, listen to this Mami if you want to come out on top and make some priceless memories of your own this year while bringing a big fat smile to your Mamis face.

First, check out the eBay Moms gift guide and then, create your own #eBayMom collection and enter for a chance to win $500 to shop on eBay (which you will then use to buy me something from my collection. Win-win, I say!).

So tell me, what's the best Mother's Day gift you've given or received?

5 Techy Gifts You'll Love

Top5GiftGuide.jpg

I wanted to give you the low down on some techy gifts. But it is HARD! How can I pick just a few things to share with you? Also: I think gadgets are super personal and usually make recommendations only after you've filled out the necessary questionnaire that will allow me to better serve you. That being said, here are some of the techy things I currently love. Understand that this list is like .001% of things I love. I might share additional lists with you later as I am sure that after I post this I will think of about 3 million things I forgot to tell you about.

Mami's Favorite!

SurfaceMy new favoritest gadget by far is the Surface Pro. I have been working exclusively on it since I got it in November. That's a little over a month of no zenMami. I remember telling anyone who would listen that Windows 8 was beautifully built for touchscreen. Though I ran it on zenMami, I was astounded at how true that statement was. When I got the mamiTab, it was love at first swipe. If you need a tablet and oh you also happen to want a laptop, the Surface 2 Pro is for you. Oh and, let me tell you about the accessories (read: these are all on my Christmas list!)

Docking_SurfaceArchTouch_SurfaceWedgeTouch_Surface TypeCover2

  • Docking Station: I love the idea of dropping the mamiTab into a docking station at my desk. This is a must have if you have a Surface 2 Pro!
  • Arc Touch Mouse: I have the USB version of this sexy mouse but there is a bluetooth version available now so, why not pick it up?
  • Wedge Touch:  This little guy is small and slick, just like me! Yes, I need it.
  • Type Cover 2: I love to hear myself typing. It makes me feel more productive. So um, yes, I totally need this to increase my productivity.

Smarty Pants

SamsungSmartTVI done did it! I got me a SmartTV. And let me tell you, I am in deep, deep love with my Samsung. If it was a man, I might marry it (I'd definitely take the engagement ring from it!). What can I say about it other than get one and see for yourself? I love being able to pull up the internet on it or get my NetFlix from the comfort of my bedroom without needing additional equipment. And the biggest AHA moment I had with it? When I connected the mamiTab to it and was able to run my beautiful Windows 8.1 on 40 inches of visual goodness. I may or may not have needed a cigarette afterwards!

The High Def TV Blues

SamsungBlueRayOf course, now that I have the beautiful television, I am going to need a blue ray player, right? I have not made the purchase yet but it's on my list. I am vacillating between the Sony and the Samsung. In either case, I think this is a must have, at least for me.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Nokia-Lumia-928I have been testing the Nokia Lumia 928 for a week now and I'm really digging it. I'm making my way around it but I can tell you that when my other phone service starts acting up (and it's been doing it a lot lately) Verizon's service has come to the rescue. I won't tell you who I'm with but it rhymes with Shrint.

In any case, I love the idea of having an extension of my Surface in my pocket. I can link up my Office 365 to it and have my documents available thanks to SkyDrive. Seriously folks, I'm like a lean mean productivity machine with this thing!

Singing In the Shower?

ShowerTunesI don't know about you but, I like to sing in the shower. It's the only place where it sounds like I can sing. You know what helps, having music while I'm in there. I also like to listen to music that ONE time a year that I get to soak in the tub. Of course, I have to create this whole process prior to me entering the water in order to ensure that 1. my gadgets are nowhere near the water and 2. I can listen to what I want and not have to kill myself getting in and out of the tub to change the music.

When I heard about Splash Shower Tunes I knew my problems were over. Not only will it play the songs off of my phone BUT if a call should come in, I can answer it from this thing! WHAAAT? Yes, gurl! I am completely excited about this. But this isn't just for me, it's also for the frog princess who totally enjoys music. Now she can take her bubble bath with some of her favorite songs and not have to worry about ruining Mami's gadgets.

The Give

I love y'all. You know that, right? However, if these items came to my house, I'd keep them all to myself in a heartbeat. I hope you understand. However! I managed to get my hands on an extra Splash Shower Tunes device and because I love you, I am giving it away (though it would make a perfectly good stocking stuffer for someone in my household). I love you SO much, that I'm giving away the premium speaker which gives you even more battery life.

Tell me, what gadgets have made your wishlist this holiday season?
