To Judy Blume, Thanks For Everything! Mami
I don't even know what to write, people! I am SO excited! Please be sure to mark your calendars for THIS THURSDAY, May 3rd at 7 pm. EST! Why, you ask? Well, I will be taking part in the Live Chat with none other than JUDY "OHEMGEE DID I JUST READ THAT IN THE 7th GRADE" BLUME!
Below, is the copy that is currently in my collection. Alas, it is not the original book I read but, years ago I came across it in a used bookstore and how could I not purchase it?
I remember like it was yesterday. I was happy to be reading Sweet Valley High when I felt a disturbance in the bibliothecary force. Out of nowhere there materialized a waiting list for a book that everyone was whispering about. I remember Martha G told me she'd read it. And of course, I put my name down. I had thoroughly enjoyed Are You There God It's Me Margaret in both English and Spanish. I was going through my "I want to read the same book in different languages to see if it's really the same" phase. Alas, Forever was, for me, a continuation of perhaps what Margaret might've gone through had she not seemed so comical in comparison.
I believe this was a stepping stone book for me. A year and a half later, my high school was giving away donated books and I found myself smack dab in the middle of Harlequin. The feel of the book was similar and I took home a handful of them. Yeah, um, I was not disappointed (let's just say I was 13 and the books kept me in the house). But, I digress.
Are you going to join me or what?! You know you want to! I'd actually like you to because there's a chance I might go all "great big fan" on her or worst yet, what if I can't think of anything to say? Can you imagine? Disaster!
The great thing about Judy is that while her name may automatically conjure up thoughts of first kisses and first...um...times, she has written so many more books! SuperFudge, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Blubber, Freckle Juice, Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great, Then Again Maybe I Won't, Double Fudge, Tiger Eyes...I could go on and on and on.
Which is your favorite Blume book? And, will you be joining me to thank her for all of the vibrant characters she brought to life?
